Homage to Hellsing

Just the other day, I was re-watching Highschool of the Dead (HOTD), and I realized something…
In the first episode, where the characters are introduced, one character stood out to me: Kohta Hirano, the “gun otaku” of HOTD.
Rumor has it that HOTD‘s Kohta Hirano is a homage to Kouta Hirano, the creator of the anime/manga Hellsing. It is a vampire-based story where humans, vampires and demons exist. I don’t really want to bore you with the details, but if you’ve seen it or read it then you know how really awesome it is! Currently, I’m reading through the first part of the series (no spoilers please! I’ll be watching the anime soon).
Kohta, from HOTD, has a personality that would match up with Kouta Hirano’s Hellsing‘s style. From guns down to the details and accuracy, Kohta would be the dipiction of Hellsing. Won’t Kouta-kun be so proud? Heehee.
If you haven’t seen either anime, I suggest that you start on it right away. Both of these are gut-clenching goodness!

skip the anime and go straight into the ova it follows the manga alot more closely while the anime doesn’t at all. :D
I have watched the OVAs of Hellsing. It’s accuracy to the manga is amazing! Unfortunately, only 7 episodes and the 8th one has yet to come out. From what I remember, episode 7 came out back in 2009 in Japan. The 8th episode was rumored to be out by 2010… at the time, Anime Expo said that it would be released in 2011 and I have yet to see it. Makes me sad to see that they would withold back such a fabulous anime, but that’s marketing for you. They make you WANT it!
